Samoa Mormons join Nat'l Council of Churches

The Mormon Church has become the latest member of the National Council of Churches with those involved indicating the matter to be a sensitive one.Officially called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its acceptance as NCC’s 11th member occurred last Friday.“I do not want to make any comment regarding the LDS membership until the Council meets again on Friday,” NCC Secretary Rev. Ma’auga Motu said today.Mormon headquarters at Pesega refused to comment for the same reason.Rev. Motu said he will comment on eligibility criteria for NCC membership after the meeting on Friday. He confirmed the Assembly of God (AOG ) wanted to join NCC.“Pastor Joe Amosa of AOG has approached us with the church’s wish,” said Rev. Motu. That has yet to be addressed and discussed by the NCC’s council.More Christian denominations seek membership, said Rev. Motu.
