Samoa launches Christmas in the Park

With the festive season getting closer, Christmas in the Park for Samoa is promising a treat for families this year.The local version of Christmas in the Park – a concert widely staged in countries like New Zealand, Australia and parts of the United States - was launched on Thursday evening at the Tanoa Tusitala conference room.The launch gave a glimpse of what the community can expect to see. Performers, dancers, singers, choirs and bands will have an all-Samoan line up locally and from overseas on the 15 December.Producer Tuala Ponifasio said the event is not just a concert but it will become a tradition in Samoa.“Christmas in the Park is a concept that will lift the spirit of Christmas in Samoa,” he promised.“Our festive season will start off with a bang with lots of activities and a Santa Parade.“The show is about the spirit of Christmas;the joy, the giving and gifting with the focus is on the family.”Tongan artist, Melenau Lino who has close links to Samoans in New Zealand, will be back in the country to perform and do what she does best which is singing.Ms Lino started off as a gospel singer at church and enjoys a mix of island music. “I am honoured to be in Samoa to be part of their Christmas celebration,” she said.“I believe in the importance of families and I am very happy to be performing alongside Samoan artists.”
