Samoa court dismisses charge against police officer

A charge against a police officer who was accused of helping a prisoner escape from Tafaigata prison was dismissed by the District Court on Friday.The not guilty decision was handed down by Judge Mata Tuatagaloa.Anamani Sinapoa had pleaded not guilty to the charge of assisting and or concealing a prisoner’s escape.The allegation stems from an incident that occurred on 18 June. He was suspended on 8 July without pay.Sinapoa, a father of five, had served in the force for five years at time of the alleged offence.Sinapoa had always professed his innocence and is seeking immediate reinstatement into the police force.The matter went to trial before Judge Tuatagaloa for three days from early February.It was then adjourned for the court decision whereby the court found Sinapoa not guilty of the offense and dismissed the charge.
