It’s back to business for Samoa Air.And to show it is serious, the Airline has a new aircraft to improve its services.Yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer, Chris Langton, said the Cessna 337G model was flown in from Australia two weeks ago.It is ready for service.The aircraft is from the Australian government by way of the Defence Co-operation Programme in the Pacific. It provides “Pacific Class Patrol Boats to conduct surveillance within and between participating countries that has entered into a contract with an Australian company”.“The aircraft when not on surveillance missions can carry up to six people and has extended range fuel tanks. It is especially equipped with short field and short take off modifications commonly referred to as a STOL kit.“The aircraft can operate into any airfield in Samoa and American Samoa and carry full loads. The charter services are available when the aircraft is not on deployment doing its contractual surveillance.”Mr. Langton acknowledged Maritime Surveillance Advisor (M.S.A) to Samoa, Lieutenant Commander Mal Parsons who has been instrumental in recognising the value of surveillance project and supported it from the outset.He added, “As C.E.O, I can say that a lot of people have contributed to this proposition being ultimately successful.\“Also it is a significant step for a Private Enterprise Company in Samoa to be able to secure such a very valuable contract and to have the opportunity to carry out flights like this which will be very visible across the Pacific.”Good news for the company is “Samoa Air crews have been undergoing training on the aircraft and are expecting to be tasked for deployment overseas later this month”.Mr. Langton was also happy to announce that since the company had a “step back” in June with staff members being furloughed
