The Dept. of Youth and Women’s Affairs (DYWA) is hosting a special concert later this month, and all proceeds will go towards funding a new tutoring center for the territory’s youth.

This is according to DYWA Deputy Director Tapumanaia Galu Satele Jr.

Richard Parker will be “Live in Concert” on Tuesday, December 23 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium. Admission is $25 and doors will open promptly at 6 p.m.

Seating is limited so everyone is encouraged to get their tickets early. Tickets are available at the DYWA main office on the second floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building in Utulei or call 633-2835/2836 for more information.

According to Tapumanaia, money collected from the concert will go towards the purchase of computers, tables and chairs that will be used in a new tutoring center, which will be temporarily housed in the DYWA conference room.

In an initial interview, Tapumanaia explained that the purpose of the tutoring center is to provide after-hours guidance counseling, tutoring sessions, and computer training for the territory’s youth. He said they have some computers on hand already, although they are working on getting more and trying to get the equipment up and running, as far as connectivity to the internet.

As with all DYWA operations, the tutoring center will be relocated to the Community Youth Center in Pago Pago (former site of the old Korea House) once construction is fully completed later this year. In other DYWA news, Tapumanaia said their office is working on a few things to close out this year, including partnership projects like the upcoming Christmas Program with the Arts Council, and the celebration of 3-D month with the Dept. of Human and Social Services (DHSS).
