Honolulu, HAWAII — The community came out in support of the Fagaitua High School Alumni Association Hawaii (FHSAA Hawaii) Zumbathon with Yumi Kraft at Radford High School in Honolulu.

The event was part of the FHSAA Annual Scholarship provided by the Hawaii chapter and awarded to a graduating senior from Fagaitua High School.  This is the 5th year of the scholarship program. Scholarship chair/advisor Elisapeta Tuupo Alaimaleata, secretary Hotavia Gingerlei Porter, treasurer Alice Malepeai Silbanuz and FHSAA Hawaii members coordinated the community event.

The late Tuato'o Tautalatasi scholar trophy is an annual contribution by Apomatagi Tuatoo and her children in memory of Tuato'o's commitment to the education of youth in the eastern district.  More sponsors for the annual FHSAA scholarship include Island Flowers by Liana in Fagaalu by Pita and Donna Gurr.  The persistence of FHSAA Hawaii leaders enables the organization to advocate and secure resources to help youth of Fagaitua High School.

Since its establishment in 2008, the FHSAA Hawaii has also supported other initiatives such as supplies and financial assistance towards 2009 tsunami relief efforts, paying SAT test fees for seniors, classroom teacher supplies, signage and the FIRST Marquee on island at FHS and many others.

The FHSAA Hawaii has begun to embark on initiatives in solidarity with efforts for a healthy Pacific Region, especially with the high percentage of Pacific Islanders with chronic diseases.  FHSAA Hawaii will kick off their environmental efforts supported by Matson's Ka Ipu Aina foundation in August 2017.

We need the community to stand up and contribute to keeping a healthy environment and especially fight health disparities.  FHSAA Hawaii events is only the beginning as they prep for the upcoming 50th FHS Jubilee slated for July 1-8, 2018.
