Wahtonka Community School presents an evening of celebrating American Samoa

Come join us for a night of celebrating American Samoan culture! Ticket price includes a traditional Samoan dinner, cultural entertainment and auction fun! All money raised will go towards supporting the Wahtonka Community School students' efforts to establish an exchange program to American Samoa.

We are currently aiming to send students for a week of cultural and service learning projects in April 2017.

For years Samoans have called The Dalles home, yet until recently, a formal student exchange program has not existed. Students part of a high school peer leadership program visted the Wahtonka Community School (WCS) in July 2016 for a week of education and cultural exchange activities which culminated in WCS and American Samonan students performing a traditional Samoan dance.

Since this encounter WCS has formed a similar group: North West S.A.U.C.E: Students Achieving Unique Cultural Exchanges. We're working on a partnership with The Dalles Sister City program to establish a second sister city for The Dalles in American Samoa.

This program has the goal of sending our students or receiving their students on a yearly basis. During this April 2017 exchange, we will be doing a joint mural project with local artist Dylan McManus which will take symbols from both The Dalles and American Samoa and combine them into one art installation in American Samoa.
