[Samoa Observer]

The rain failed to dampen the spirits of hundreds who took part in the opening of the 27th Teuila Festival in front of the government building this week.

The day started with a parade on Beach Road, kicking off the first day of activities, which included traditional games, entertainment, cricket and lots of other fun activities.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi who opened the event said the Festival is an annual celebration of Samoan culture.

“The Teuila festival is the representative of the cultural and the social norms we continue to promote in sustaining our Fa’a-Samoa,” he said.

“These define who we are in the eyes of others and I thank all of you who are participating in the Teuila competitions and exhibitions.”

The annual Teuila Festival showcases Samoa’s best in the arts, tourism, food, handicrafts, crafts, entertainment and traditional sports.

A true celebration of Samoan and Polynesian culture, the Teuila Festival is an annual event now in its 27th year, with many activities and shows being held across the country, particularly in Apia.
