Parking meters in Samoa to be operational next month
Apia, SAMOA — Parking meters installed in selected locations in Apia town will become operational next month.
This has been confirmed by the L.T.A. Chief Executive Officer, Galumalemana Titi Tutuvanu-Schwalger, in an email to the Samoa Observer.
She said the parking meters will be switched on from Monday, November 5, 2018 and will be in use from Monday to Friday, although there are plans to also include Saturday.
“While the parking meter installation has been completed, we were working closely with the Attorney General’s Office to finalise the Parking Meter Regulations which was then passed onto Cabinet for approval.
“The Parking Meter Regulations was approved by the Cabinet on 10 October 2018. Therefore, the use of parking meters will be enforced starting Monday, 5 November 2018.
“The L.T.A. will be airing advertisements and publishing notices on the media in the coming days to inform our public prior to the effective date,” she said.
The L.T.A. has advised the public that they have a choice either to park at the metered parking spaces or park at the non-metered parking spaces for free.
“Furthermore, the parking fee is set at $1 for 15 minutes thus $4 per hour. If a vehicle is parked more than the time purchased, then the driver is given the option to pay for the amount of time exceeded.
