Auckland, NEW ZEALAND — Opera singing group Sol3 Mio will play three sold out shows in Auckland, completely in Samoan.

Brothers Pene and Amitai Pati, along with their cousin Moses Mackay, will perform at David Nathan Park in Manurewa on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8.30pm.

The trio will sing in Samoan, something they have done since they were children at church.

Sol3 Mio, along with guest artists, will perform a new composition, Alofagia: Le Opera, by Poulima Salima.

The composition, directed by Anapela Polata'ivao and choreographed by Tupua Tigafua, is described as a "mesmerising, new Pacific opera".

The group said the performance would weave ancient Polynesian sounds and echoes a time when gods governed the sea, sky, air and fire.

It's a rhythmic composition expressed through song and movement, a statement said.

Sol3 Mio emerged as a trio in 2013, with the hope of breaking down the perception that opera is "snobby".
