Nightclub NXT closed, not Edge Marina View

The nightclub, NXT

Apia, SAMOA — The Chairman of the Liquor Board, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt, yesterday clarified that the nightclub, NXT, on the Marina has been closed with its liquor license removed.

The Restaurant and Bar called The Edge Marina View remains opened.

Tialavea, who is the Minister of Revenue, also confirmed that the decision to close the nightclub was made by the Liqour Board.

“I was away in New Zealand for two weeks and as soon I got back into the office a meeting was called and the Marina was on the agenda,” he said.

“That’s when we acted to revoke the night club license.”

Tialavea explained that the closure followed a warning by the Liquor Board to the same nightclub over other incidents.

Yesterday, lawyer Alex Su’a, acting on behalf of The Edge, also wanted to clarify the matter, following the publication of a story “Edge Marina View shut, loses license” yesterday.

In a letter to the Samoa Observer, Mr. Su’a pointed out that:

“(a) the nightclub is called "NXT" and not Edge Marina View. The Restaurant and the Bar is called "The Edge". The whole premises is commonly referred to as "the Marina"

 (b) also note, that the decision to close the NXT nightclub was exclusively that of our clients. The Liquor Board was informed of our clients decision to permanent closure, which the Board has already accepted by revoking the liquor license for the nightclub only.”
