More elderly men appear in court for rape and incest

Apia, SAMOA — The former Methodist Church Minister, Tugia Tuliau pleaded guilty Monday to 10 charges of sexual connection with a minor.

The 10 charges include one of rape, seven sexual conduct and two counts of indecent acts on a family member.

Judge Leiataualesā Daryl Clarke suggested sentence next month but prosecution applied for time to go through the charges document and sentencing is set down for 14 January 2020.

His is remanded at liberty on condition that all his travel documents are surrendered to the Court.

The defendant’s charges stemmed from an incident that happened while the victim was under his care while serving at Falealili.

Meanwhile, two more elderly men between the ages of 60 – 70s have appeared in court for rape and incest.

One of them is facing 79 charges of rape and 79 of incest and the matter has been adjourned to 25 November 2019 for prosecution to present a table of charges for the Court.

The other defendant has pleaded not guilty to six counts of incest and is remanded at liberty until his trial on the week commencing 03 July 2020.

The Court has issued name suppression order on both defendants to protect the identification of the victims in these matters.
