HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has already announced she’s running for president in 2020, but her official campaign kickoff is set for Saturday.

On Wednesday, after weeks of speculation by many of her followers, she finally announced the venue for the announcement: The Great Lawn at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.

The Congresswoman will take the stage at 3 p.m., and members of the public are invited to attend for free. But they’re asked to RSVP. To do so, click here.

Hawaii News Now will livestream the rally online, on Facebook, and on the Hawaii News Now mobile app.

Gabbard first announced her intention to run on January 11 in an appearance on CNN.

The announcement, though, was not delivered during that initial timeline, and the days that followed saw several periods of intense criticism directed toward Gabbard.

She faced scrutiny over — and apologized for — homophobic comments and efforts to ban same-sex marriage during her younger years as a state legislator, and continues to defend her 2017 meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during an unannounced trip to the war-torn country.

Gabbard represents Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. She was born in American Samoa and has a number of firsts to her name, including as the first Hindu-American in Congress.
