 Alleged mother of Mulifanua abandoned baby escorted into court

Apia, SAMOA — The mother of the baby who was found among the rubbish at the Mulifanua Wharf last month, September, made her first appearance in court today.

The 22 year old was not represented by legal counsel .

During criminal mention today, prosecutor Magele Leone Mailo made an application to the court for the matter to be adjourned so they can finalize charges.

“Your honor, this matter is for first mention, if it can be adjourned for 2 weeks so prosecution can finalize the charges,” she said.

Presiding Supreme Court judge, Justice Leiataualesa, granted the application and adjourned the matter to next month, 4th November 2019.

Today’s court appearance is the start of a long legal process for the alleged mother of a new born baby whose dead body was discovered among the rubbish.

The Mulifanua baby is one of two newborn children whose dead bodies were found abandoned.
