FREE MEDICAL CLINICS START NEXT MONDAY 

The Adventist Medical Evangelism Network (AMEN) clinic, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Pago Pago and the Department of Health, will be in town to carry out a medical, vision, and dental clinic Dec. 4-7 at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium in Utulei.

Chairperson of the local AMEN Planning Team, Tafaimamao Tua-Tupuola has been busy finding ways to publicize the event, and one of them is an awareness outreach event, to elaborate on the clinic and the registration process, with the elderly folks from the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA) today at 8 a.m. who may want to take advantage of the service.

NMSAS COUNCIL MEETING SET FOR TOMORROW

NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa will hold a public meeting of the Sanctuary Advisory Council in the Rotunda Room of the Tauese P.F. Sunia Ocean Center in Fagatogo tomorrow from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Items on the agenda include updates on sanctuary leadership, Okeanos Explorer, enforcement, Aunu’u Island Taloa Cooperative, Sanctuary Summer Science in the Village, partnership with NOAA Fisheries Sustainable Fisheries Program and the 2nd annual open fishing tournament. 

Those wishing to speak on agenda items may add their name to the public comment sign-up sheet at the Ocean Center tomorrow. Oral testimony may be limited to three minutes per person, depending on time. 

The deadline to submit a written copy of testimonies is today. Afterwards, it is the submitter’s responsibility to provide sanctuary staff with an adequate number of copies for distribution to the council members in attendance (a minimum of 25 copies) the day of the meeting.

The next Council meeting is set for Friday, March 2, 2018 at 9 .am.

Established in 2005, the Sanctuary Advisory Council is a community-based body that provides advice and recommendations on managing and protecting the sanctuary. The council is composed of eleven government and fourteen non-governmental seats. Serving in a volunteer capacity, the council members represent a variety of local user groups, as well as the general public.
