Reconstructed WIC building in Utulei dedicated

Gov. Togiola Tulafono was joined Thursday by local officials for the official dedication of the new WIC building in Utulei. The federally funded WIC program, which services some 7,000 clients is administered by the Department of Human and Social Services, whose director Leilua Stevenson told the gathering at the opening that total cost of the project was around $933,000 due to construction, electricity costs and not including labor.

In his remarks the governor conveyed his appreciation to the various government agencies for working together and seeing to it that the new WIC office was completed.

In the new fiscal year 2013 budget, DHSS is proposing a $8.3 million budget to administrate and manage WIC, as well as paying WIC benefits to participants.
