PNA members agree to increase fishing fees

Member nations of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement, or PNA, have agreed to increase fees for fishing vessels using their waters.During the annual meeting of the PNA in Palau, the members decided to increase the minimum fee from 5 and a half thousand US dollars a day to 6 and a half thousand dollars.The 6 year old fee system is used to sustainably manage the world’s largest tuna fishery in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.The member countries include the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.
