PM to write to Aussie Morman leaders about language ban

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi has given an “undertaking” that he would write to the leaders of the Mormon Church in Australia about the decision to ban the use of the Samoan language during worship. This is the outcome of a meeting between Tuilaepa and a group from the Aiga Samoa Community in Brisbane on Monday.Speaking to the media after the meeting, lawyer Leuluaiali’i Olinda Woodroffe said Prime Minister, Tuilaepa was extremely supportive of their plight. She said he has promised to write to the leaders of the church in a bid to overturn the decision.Leulua’iali’i said the decision is degrading, unfair and illegal. To counter claims from the Church’s headquarter in Samoa that there is no ban; Leulua’i provided a copy of the ruling from a Federal Magistrate Court of Australia, which proves the ban.The lawyer said the continuous denial about the ban is sad.“Who are these people saying that [the ban] is a lie,” she asked. “Why don’t they come and see it with their own eyes.”
