PHOTOS: SAMOAN COUSINS IN NEVADA GRADUATE WITH HONORS AND AWARDS

Senior awards night Tuesday night at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada was an exciting night for two cousins with local ties. Timothy J McMoore-Tuamoheloa and Tasiaiafe Hiner are the only Samoan students in the school U.S. News & World Report has named “One of America’s top public schools.”

Both young men are graduating with high honors including the President’s Award for Academic Excellence.

McMoore-Tuamoheloa received several additional awards— not the least of which is the U.S. Army ROTC Full Tuition Scholarship— and was presented with a $100,000 check reflecting that award. He will take up the scholarship at UNLV. He is the son of Simi Jr & Salamasina McMoore Tuamoheloa from Leloaloa, Utulei & Ili'ili.

Hiner also received several scholarships and awards including top honors in music. After considering his scholarship offers he will be attending Oberlin College in Ohio and is the recipient of their Conservatory Merit Award.  He is the son of Eric & Mariah Tofaeono Hiner of Henderson, Nevada.

Proud dad and uncle, Simi Jr told Samoa News, “We are all PROUD of our SONS OF SAMOA that have excelled academically, athletically and musically and wish them both well in their upcoming graduation on June 6. We will carry in thought all the families in Samoa and abroad that can't make their BIG day. God bless!”
