Son of Samoa earns U.S. Air Force pilot wings

2nd LT Hanyoun Ao Jeong stepping into the cockpit of a jet airplane

Wichita Falls, TEXAS — 2nd LT Hanyoun Ao Jeong earned his pilot wings from the Euro NATO Joint Jet pilot training (Enjjpt) at Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB) in Wichita Falls, Texas where he flew the T-6 Texan and T-38 Talon. He will be flying the B-52 bomber out of Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

2nd LT Jeong — born and raised in Pago Pago, American Samoa — is the son of Tuvaelagi Vaivao-Jeong and MunHo Jeong.

A 2007 graduate of South Pacific Academy, the US Air Force pilot is married to Nerisa Lutali-Jeong and the couple has three children: Andre, Aria, and Alexander.

2nd LT Jeong is a prior enlisted Air Traffic Controller who served 6 years on Active Duty before separating, in order to attend AFROTC at Det 88 Sacramento State University, CA.

He was commissioned in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics.
