The front page story that was published in our May 31 edition about the new DOH scholarships inadvertently stated that the funding came from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Instead, the money came from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and a total of $5,000 was awarded to the Tobacco/Diabetes Coalition under the local Dept. of Health.

Permission was given by the grantor to use $3,000 for scholarship purposes, hence the $500 award for one student from each of the six public high schools, Manu’a included.

Also, Samoa News apologizes to Leone High School Valedictorian Ramona Delsey Tinae for misquoting her in our Tuesday, June 6 edition. The correct quote should have read: “I want to become a Certified Public Accountant so I can come back home to serve our people.”
