Northern California Cultural Preservation Day to focus on \ Ia taofi mau lau aganuu\

The Samoan Ministers Association of churches in North California and the Samoan Cultural Preservation Day Committee is proud to announce its 5th year of celebrating the Samoan culture in North California. The Samoan Ministers Association consists of churches such as the Assemblies of God, Seventh Day Adventist, Nazarene church, Methodist, Congregational Christian church of American Samoa and Samoa and the Full Gospel Pentecostal church.

The Spiritual leaders of these churches met seven years ago and prayed for the blessings of God on the Samoan families and community in North California and all over the US. As a result, they agreed to form an organization called the Samoan Ministers Association of North California. Every 3 months these churches get together and fellowship on a schedule Sunday.

In 2008, the Samoan Ministers Association appointed Rev. Alex Ledoux to head the Samoan Cultural Preservation Day Committee. The event normally begins with a march (savali faaaloalo) followed by the faiga lotu. The Ava ceremony then will be conducted by one of the local church youth group. Siva and Samoan faafiafiaga will also be a part of the program. Youth ministries will be in uniform and will present their Taupou and Manaia. There will be a modern day wear and traditional day wear presentation by the Taupou and Manaia of each churches.

In the past years, the committee will select a part of the Samoan culture as the highlight of the day to be presented by a representative from each youth group. This year will be focusing on the most creative solo faasamoa with the topic " Ia taofi mau lau aganuu."

We are expecting a large turn out this year again. We encourage all the Samoan community here in the Sacramento and Bay Area to come out and show support for our 5th annual Samoan Cultural Preservation Day this coming Monday, May 27 at Robertson Park in Sacramento Ca. The event will start with the march at 7:30am follow by the faigalotu and the Ava ceremony by the CCCAS Laumua o Tumua church under the leadership of Rev. Salesa Faalau. There will be faleaiga with Samoan food and the event will be safe for families as it is being led by the Samoan Ministers Association and the Samoan Cultural Preservation Day committee chair by Rev. Alex Ledoux of the Samoan Christian Fellowship Church of Fairfield Ca.
