Nonu juice in Samoa set to be exported to China

A New Zealand company Pure Pacifika Limited has announced that it will now extract nonu juice in Samoa, bottle it and ship it to China. When it first began operations in Samoa last year, the company was exporting nonu in bulk to China but the Speaker of Parliament, La’auli Leuatea Polata’ivao, says nonu growers in Savai’i would soon be exporting juice.La’auli who is part of Pure Pacifika says it will be sent to China to their exporter Tupa’i Chen, who faced money laundering and corruption allegations in Hong Kong, following an investigation involving New Zealand authorities. The Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said last week that all except one of the charges against Mr Chen have been dropped.La’auli says the market slowed down for a while when the court case was pending and says once the last allegation against Tupa’i Chen is cleared, the nonu exports would pick up again.
