Day 2 in Fiji finds Am. Samoa Junior Tennis team with some wins

The American Samoa Junior Tennis players continue to compete in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) East Pacific Qualifying tournament this week in Lautoka, Fiji. Day Two results from yesterday (Fiji time is 23 hours ahead of American Samoa time) had the America Samoa players doing better than they did on Opening day.

 

In the 12s Mixed Doubles, Team Samoa (consisting of Phillip Warren and Leafine Cronin, defeated the American Samoa team of John Paul Lim and Sharon Ledua, 6-1, 6-0, while in the Girls 12 and Under Singles, Jireh Warren of American Samoa, downed Tahiti’s Chrissy Vonge, 6-3, 6-2.

 

The Boys 12 and Under Singles saw Vaitea Molinier of Tahiti, shut out American Samoa’s John Paul Lim in two sets, 6-0, 6-0. There was a slight upset in the Boys 16 and Under Singles when Tahiti’s Reynald Taaroa, defeated the #1 seed in the division, American Samoa’s Larry Magalasin, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

 

Eleanor Schuster of Samoa defeated Sharon Ledua of American Samoa, 6-0, 6-0 in the Girls 12 and Under Singles.

 

In the 14s Mixed Doubles, Team Samoa’s Kristen Pavitt and Eleanor Schuster, downed American Samoa’s team of John Quinn Lim and Mychaella Miller, 6-1, 6-2. The Girls 12 and Under Singles saw American Samoa’s Jireh Warren whiz past Samoa’s Penina Kamu, 6-0, 6-0.

 

The Boys 14 and Under Singles had Kristen Pavitt of Samoa, defeat John Quinn Lim of American Samoa 6-1, 6-2. The 14s Mixed Doubles team of Jeremy Guines of Tahiti and Jireh Warren of American Samoa, defeated Gillian Osmont of Tahiti and American Samoa’s Hanisi Ledua in a hard fought match, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

 

The #1 seed in the Girls 14 and Under Singles Naia Guitton of Tahiti, had little trouble with American Samoa’s Mychaella Miller on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Tahiti’s 16’s Mixed Doubles Team of Reynald Taaroa and Naia Guitton had their hands full in their victory over American Samoa’s Jummah Vigas and Michelle Miller with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the American Samoa team. In more 16’s Mixed Doubles action, the all American Samoa teams of Jummah Vigas and Michelle Miller, defeated Larry Magalasin and Chrystal Christman, 6-4, 6-2.

 

Chrystal Christman of American Samoa defeated teammate Hanisi Ledua 6-1, 6-1 in the Girls 14 and Under Singles.

The top winners from the East Pacific Qualifying tournament will continue on to the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships representing the East Pacific against the best junior players from the Northern and Western Pacific Regions.
