Dengue cases continue to rise according to DOH

The updated report compiled by the Department of Health (DOH) on the dengue fever outbreak shows an increase in cases in the territory.  The latest report, which is for the week ending August 2, 2015 has an increase of 54 suspected cases within the span of eight days. According to the email sent out by DOH, this report is their “friendly message” from Epidemiologist Scott Anesi with the approval of DOH Director Motusa Nua.

The previous report, which was issued up to July 26, 2015 said that there were 184 suspected cases to that point.

According to the report, the weekly update for dengue for the week ending Aug 2, 2015 is 238 suspected cases, 75 hospitalizations and four confirmed deaths. There is also an increase of 14 people who were admitted within the span of the eight days into the hospital for treatment and other observation.

The previous report says that up till July 26, 2015 we have had 184 suspected cases, 61 admissions and four confirmed deaths.  Through the week ending July 19, 2015 we have 145 suspected cases with 55 admissions and four confirmed deaths.

In the meantime, DOH continues their 3D campaign and stresses public cooperation with environmental measures. As reported earlier, DOH said that the usual symptoms of dengue are acute nausea, vomiting, fever, rash, joint pain and general fatigue and weakness. DOH would like to continue to encourage the practice of good hygiene and environmental sanitation practices, and if there are any treatment concerns, the Department of Health encourages the public to please contact them.

Emails were sent to the DOH Director asking what DOH action has been taken against the increase of the dengue, however, as of press time there has been no reply.
