THS senior competes at mainland football camps

Local high school standout football player Frederick Mauigoa from Tafuna High School, who will be a senior this coming school year, has been making waves on the football field stateside recently, competing at various football combines across the US with some of the best high school players in the nation.

A 4-Star prospect (5-Star prospects are among the nations top 25-30 players), the 6-4 290 pound lineman will most likely be the top football prospect coming out of American Samoa’s class of 2016. Mauigoa has stood out at every combine and camp he participated in this summer, with the latest being the Nike Opening Finals football camp that was an “invitation only” event  held in Beaverton, Oregon July 7-10.

In the Nike Opening Finals, he competed against the top 150 high school players from across the United States. According to the Pasefika International Sports Alliance, which helps local players and players from Hawai’i obtain scholarships, Mauigoa made the top 5 list in the offensive lineman group competition during the finals.

Putting all of his accomplishments together, Mauigoa has recently been selected to play in the Blue-Grey East-West All-American Bowl this coming December 20 in Dallas, Texas.
