IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM: SAMOA IMMIGRANT'S DREAM OF GOOD LIFE

Long before he graduated high school, Leafatia Faamanu always knew that he wanted to be successful. As a young boy growing up in a far back village in Samoa, he used to watch little fishing boats pass by on his way to fetch water from a shared ‘pool’ of freshwater for his family.

Every day and night, he remembers, “the kids in our village would go down to the pool with buckets in hand to fetch enough water to be used for cooking and cleaning”. He explained that most families in his village were not hooked up to a pipeline system and this was the main source of water for them.
