Fourth suspect in Leone shooting found and charged

The fourth suspect in the shooting in Leone, Joe Palagi aka Solia Mosegi, who’s been at large for over two weeks, has been arrested and made his initial appearance in the District Court yesterday.

Mosegi is facing charges of conspiring with Lefatia to commit two counts of assault second degree and property damage, in connection with the shooting of the Leone substation last year November. The other three suspects are Sinapati Tu’ufanatu, Manu Lefatia and Tuliese Taliu.

Lefatia is charged with two counts of felony assault second-degree and property damage in the first degree, while co-defendants Taliu and Tu’ufanatu are facing charges of conspiring with Lefatia to commit two counts of assault second degree and property damage.

According to the government’s case, on November 1, 2014 a police officer contacted the Central Police Station and reported a shooting of the Leone Substation building by unknown persons around 2:30a.m.

Bullets were found from the shooting in the substation, and a man in the area informed police that he heard three gunshots and the shots were fired one after another. Scene reconstruction and forensic analysis of bullet trajectory conducted by the police indicated the bullets impacting the substation were fired from the main road.

Court filings say police officers spoke with confidential informants-CI which eventually lead to the arrest of the four defendants. The investigating officer also stated in court fillings that as he investigated the defendants, it became known that they distribute narcotics from the Aute Bar in an organized manner and they were labeled as “runners”.

No guns to date have been identified or found as being used in the drive-by shooting of the Leone police substation.
