Merciless stoning kills man in Samoa

A 27-year-old father who jumped in the sea at Savalalo in an attempt to flee from his attackers has died.Holani Toso, of Leone was involved in a fight that broke out at the Savalalo Fish market during the weekend.His father, Toso Fata, told the Samoa Observer that his son jumped into the sea to avoid his opponents.“He couldn’t stand up to the seven of them,” said Mr. Fata. “So he jumped into the sea trying to escape from them. But even when he was in the sea thinking they will leave him alone, they continued to throw stones at him, hitting him.”Mr. Fata said the head injuries sustained by Holani were so serious it killed him.Speaking about his son, Mr. Fata said he is heartbroken.“He has a daughter and wife who live at Vaimoso,” said Mr. Fata.“He is the eldest of my seven children. I don’t know what else to say other than that I am still really hurt. It’s hard.”Holani had apparently just returned from a fishing exhibition. He was preparing to leave the fish market when the fight broke out. It could not be confirmed what caused it.
