Weather Service issues high wind advisory for Am Samoa
The National Weather Service Pago Pago has issued a wind advisory that is in effect until Saturday afternoon.
Strong northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph are expected for all American Samoa islands.
Motorists should exercise caution especially when driving on the main road. Strong gusty winds can break tree branches and interrupt electrical and phone lines.
A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
The active monsoon trough continues to stall near Manu’a and will remain stalled through Saturday bringing periods of showers and possible thunderstorms over the Samoan islands. Wet soil conditions from recent rain showers will enhance the potential for flash flooding.
A flash flood watch is still in effect through Saturday evening with high surf and small craft advisories also still in effect.
