Girl swept to sea

A 17-year-old junior at Leone High School was swept out at sea while sitting on the rocks Friday afternoon at Sogi, according to police.

It was first reported that the incident took place at Leala but later information confirmed she drowned at Sogi.

The south shore of Tutuila was experiencing some exceptionally high surf with waves 10-13 feet most of the day.

Initial reports say that after the girl was swept out to sea,  her brother called for police but she was not found in time.

Her body was brought back to shore some time later.

Details as they become available.
