Weather Bulletin Update: Small stream flood advisory

The National Weather Service in Pago Pago has canceled its flash flood warning and issued a small stream flood advisory for Tutuila, Aunu’u and Manu’a until 12 noon today, Wed. Jan. 21, 2015.

Scattered showers with locally heavy rainfall have spread across   the affected area. A newly developed surface trough from this   morning has extended over Tutuila and Manu’a allowing scattered to frequent showers to sweep across the territory.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected before   noon today. Therefore small streams will encounter increasing water flow until the rainfall dissipates during the afternoon hours.

Heavy rainfall and runoffs may cause small streams to overflow resulting in flooding of low lying areas and roadways. Please take extra caution when driving through flood roads.

Runoff and flooding along the main road has been observed as well as on the airport road near Cost U Less and in Ottoville at the Mormon Church, according to Samoa News reporters.

Mud and landslides are also possible along steep slopes and mountainous areas as grounds become saturated.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions when driving due to hazardous driving conditions and flooded roadways.

Updates as they become available.
