Police officer injured in shooting on road to Leone

Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga says the Department of Public Safety is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting that injured a police officer early Sunday morning in the Leone area.

 

Lolo confirmed that a police officer was injured during a shooting but declined to comment on the extent of the injuries. Lolo told Samoa News that every resource that DPS has, has been called into service for the investigation of the injured officer. He told Samoa News that DPS will provide a statement to the public tomorrow about the incident.

 

A witness who heard the confrontation from about a half-mile away said it sounded like six or seven rifle or shotgun blasts followed by a rapid barrage of pistol fire.

 

This is the second shooting incident aimed toward Police Officers from the Leone Substation.

 

Samoa News witnessed the heavy presence of police officers outside of the hospital this morning and this afternoon the injured officer underwent an operation The officer is currently hospitalized after surgery.
