Local woman now living in Alaska indicted for federal tax fraud

A woman from American Samoa who has been living in Alaska was indicted late last month for making false, fictitious, and fraudulent tax claims against the U.S government.

Pepe Anetipa, 58, is alleged to have filed falsified tax returns claiming total refunds of at least $202,859. Anetipa was arrested in Washington state early this month and and arraigned last week at the federal court in Anchorage, Alaska where she pleaded not guilty.

According to the indictment, Anetipa moved from American Samoa in 2011 to Anchorage where she set up a tax preparing company. She is alleged to have used tax information of American Samoa residents to file taxes with the IRS in order to obtain tax refunds.
