Tafuna Boys Varsity & Jr. Varsity into playoffs undefeated

The boys Varsity volleyball team of Tafuna High School is sitting in a comfortable spot at this time as they are ranked #1 in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Varsity Volleyball standings. When their highly anticipated match-up with the defending Varsity champion Faga’itua Vikings was played, the then undefeated Vikings were defeated not only once, but twice on the same day by the Warriors.

Since then, the Vikings lost two more straight matches knocking them from being tied with Warriors in the #1 spot down to #3 as they had to work their way back up to the #2 spot where they currently stand. With this slip up by the Vikings, the Leone Lions sat in the #2 spot in the standings for a short time but are currently sitting at #3 currently, while the Samoana Sharks and Nu’uuli VocTech Wildcats are tied at #4 at this time.

This coming Wednesday, the playoffs will begin with the top four teams taking the court. It will be the #1 ranked team versus the #4 ranked, while the #2 ranked will be going against the #3 team. Today with a scheduled starting time of 3:30 p.m. at the Kanana Fou gymnasium, the Samoana Sharks will be playing the Iakina Adventist Academy Saints, while the Kanana Fou Stallions will face the Leone Lions.

There were two match-ups yesterday as the Saints met the Lions, while the Warriors played the Sharks.

Samoa News was not able receive the score of yesterday’s games as of press time. If the Lions pulled out the win yesterday, then they will be tied in the standings with the Vikings, but if they lost, they will still be sitting in the #3 spot. If the Sharks won yesterday’s game and win today’s game against the Warriors then they will going into the playoffs for sure.

In the Boys Junior Varsity Division, the Warriors Junior Varsity, just like their Varsity counterpart, are undefeated as well — and by the way they have been playing, it appears they will stay that way. This coming Saturday is the last set of Junior Varsity games, which will be played at Tafuna High School with a scheduled starting time of 8:00 a.m.

In the Junior Varsity Division, there are no playoffs. The team with the best overall record at the end of the season, will be crowned the champions. Times and locations of games are subject to change without notice.
