Heat Man remains undefeated after \fight of the night\ in Apia

American Samoa’s professional heavyweight boxing sensation Alapati 'Heat Man' Aasa, won his eighth professional fight to remain undefeated when he stepped into the ring against  long time boxing veteran Junior Maletino Iakopo of New Zealand this past Friday in Apia, Samoa. Mainly known as a knock-out artist, the Heat Man showed his technical side Friday night by using good footwork, quick jabs and pinpoint accurate punches that led him to a six round majority decision win.

The Heat Man’s record now stands at 8 wins, 0 loses with 6 knock-outs. “I am really proud of Aasa. He showed everyone that he can box and pick a person apart instead of just knocking him out. I am glad he went all of the six rounds, because it gave him some good ring experience. He is still learning, but at the same time, working his way up. Iakopo is a real tough fighter. It was a great win,” said Aasa’s trainer and coach Toleafoa Henry Tavake.

Aasa set the tone of the fight early on and stuck to his game plan against the much more experienced Iakopo in the semi-main event of the night that had nine professional fights on the card.  Iakopo tried to end the fight early with power punches but to no avail as the Heat Man patiently picked apart the veteran fighter to the enjoyment of the crowd who called this fight, “the fight of the night.”

Aasa’s last fight was last month where he defeated Fijian challenger Sefania Vakacegu in the first round with a knock out. There has been talk lately by Toleafoa in dropping Aasa down to Cruiser-weight division (up to 200lbs) where here will be using more speed along with the knock-out power that he already possesses in both hands. The latest word from camp Heat Man, is that he will be fighting at the beginning of next year in a bout that will be here in American Samoa, with his opponent yet to be named. It is not known yet if he will be fighting as a heavyweight or cruiser-weight at that time.
