ASG Christmas Co-Ed Softball Tournament set to begin Monday

Softball action will be taking place once again beginning this Monday November 17 with the 2014 Fourth Annual ASG Christmas Co-Ed Softball Tournament, put on by the American Samoa Softball Association and the Department of Parks and Recreation. The tournament is scheduled to run from Nov. 17 until Dec. 13, with all games taking place at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field.

Parks and Recreation and the ASSA just concluded their highly successful 2014 Moso’oi Co-ed Softball Tournament last month, where the competition was filled with high intensity action with Team Paramount Builders taking top honors by winning the Director’s Championship Trophy.

One of the reasons for these games is not only for recreational competition, but it is also to keep the top softball players active and at the same time, to identify other elite players for the possibility of competing for American Samoa in next year’s 2015 Pacific Games that will take place in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

There are nine teams that will be playing in this tournament. Look for more of the same high intensity action in this Christmas Softball Tournament that was displayed in the Moso’oi Tournament. The Department of Parks and Recreation Division Head Dave Godinet, invites the public out to all of these games that will be taking place Monday through Friday starting at 4:45 p.m. and at 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays at the Solaita Field.

In last year’s 3rd Annual ASG Co-Ed Softball Tournament, it was the team from the Department of Public Works that took top honors by winning in the championship finals against the Army Reserve team in a thriller, 14-13.

This year’s ASSA officers are Louis Solaita (President), Melissa Coulter (Vice-President), Tuna Maae (Secretary) and Sally Misilagi (Treasurer).
