First Lady set for brief “layover” in territory

First Lady Michelle Obama is expected to layover for three hours at the Tafuna International Airport for a refueling stop en route to Australia.

Samoa News understands that an advance team arrived in the territory over the weekend to secure the airport facilities before the aircraft carrying the First Lady touches down on Sunday.

Governor Lolo Moliga, Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and their wives are expected to be at the airport to meet and greet Mrs. Obama.

Earlier this year, US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew stopped over to refuel during a trip to Australia and was greeted by Acting Governor Lemanu and the Governor’s Office staff.

Lew was presented with gifts that included local handicrafts and a copy of the territory’s Centennial Book.
