JROTC Cadet Challenge —difficult and rewarding

The JROTC annual Cadet Challenge took place yesterday morning at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Sports Complex, with five schools participating; Leone, Tafuna, Faga’itua, Samoana and Kanana Fou. The only school with a JROTC program that did not compete was Manu’a High School, due to transportation costs.

This year’s host for the Cadet Challenge was Faga’itua High School.

This annual challenge has five events testing the cadets’ physical strength and overall fitness. The five events included a 1-mile run, curl-ups, pull-ups, V-sit and shuttle run.

Some of the participants told Samoa News that they have trained long and hard for this day and that it is the biggest challenge of the year for them. “This is the hardest physical challenge for any cadet during the school year. It is also the most rewarding, because you are not only representing your school, you are also representing JROTC. It’s great,” said a cadet.

The next JROTC competition will be air rifle competition that will be hosted by Faga’itua High School on Friday December 5.

No word on whether or not the challenge will be conducted at Manu’a High School for their cadets with the sores put up against the totals of the other schools.
