“CITIZENS VS FONO”

Dear Editor,

In the past two years most of the roads in District 15 have been paved, thanks to a first term faipule and her 6-year co-delegate. O WHERE O WHERE has our faipule gone?

The roads are a wreck, he doesn’t give a heck. When you do not live in your district and only go to church there and to council meetings what can you expect? If we are lucky, we may see him every two years when he wants our vote.

Who am I talking about? None other than the Speaker of the House. We are so lucky for his leadership.

The government wants us to pass the veto override for the Fono. In the states the senators are elected. In the U.S. we have a government of the lawyers, by the lawyers, for the lawyers. Here we are not allowed to elect our senators, our leaders feel they know what is best for everyone. Are we little children who need to be led by the hand? Here we have a government of the matais, by the matais for the matais.

About our roads, doesn’t the Director of Public Works know that it rains a lot here, dirt and water make mud. Where do our gasoline taxes for the roads go? There has not been any asphalt used to repair the roads in at least two years, longer than this in District 14. HELP!

A well-known attorney, who knows the law, stated that if funds are appropriated and the governor signs it, it is the law. So everyone in the Fono and governor and the Lt. governor get their raises— so much for democracy.
