Transit Motel offers convenience, affordability and service

Travelers planning to visit independent Samoa for a mini vacation, or to check out the newly opened Whitesands Casino, can save money and enjoy comfortable accommodations at the nearby Transit Motel, which is conveniently located only several yards away from the Whitesands doorstep, one minute from the inter-island wharf, and three minutes to Faleolo Airport.

Transit Motel offers private rooms that start at $75 (Samoa Tala) per bed for a single, and $120 (Samoa Tala) for a double occupancy room.

No need to stretch your budget. The affordable rates leave you with enough money to buy souvenirs and goodies to take back home, not to mention extra cash to play the slots and table games at Whitesands, and also spend time at Aggie Grey’s Golf Course —both of which are located right across the street.

Transit Motel is a subsidiary of Ausage and Associates, based out of Lepuapua, Leone and owned by Dept. of Youth and Women’s Affairs (DYWA) Deputy Director Pa’u Roy Taito Ausage and his wife Gloria.

The hotel establishment features a separate building at the front entrance, perfect for backpackers and those looking for a quick ‘shower, sleep, and go’ type of deal. It costs $50 (Samoa Tala) for a sponge bed and motel owner Pa’u told Samoa News yesterday that this separate building is usually packed with travelers heading to and from the big island of Savaii, with the interisland wharf located only a minute away.

Pa’u explained that the folks from Savaii usually come to Apia on the last ferry of the day and have to board flights during the midnight hours out of Faleolo Airport so they opt to stay at the Transit Motel for a quick shower and a nap. He said Transit Motel offers ‘small rooms at small prices’.

Travelers who spend the night in Samoa to await a next-day connecting flight to New Zealand, American Samoa, or other destinations usually opt to stay at the Transit Motel, because of its convenient location and affordable rates.

The rooms are small but offer the comforts of home, with window air conditioning units and full bathrooms.

The surroundings are peaceful and the friendly staff make Transit Motel the perfect place to ‘relax, rest, and revive’.

Opened since June 2012, what is currently found at the Transit Motel is only the first of a four-phase project.

According to Pa’u, the second phase will include the addition of another twenty rooms, with upgraded features including television, refrigerator and microwave. The third phase will see the construction of a restaurant, swimming pool, and bar, while the fourth and final phase will involve the erection of luxury rooms for those who demand bigger units and top of the line amenities.

Currently, Pa’u has already received the green light from the Samoa Government to relocate his establishment using two acres located directly across from the Faleolo Airport. However, construction is yet to begin, as there are still issues that need to be ironed out, including land disputes with the village council.

Pa’u said he prefers their current site though, as it is directly across the street from the Whitesands Casino and the Aggie Grey Golf Course, both of which will attract tourists year round.

He said if plans to relocate across from the Faleolo Airport are not resolved soon, he will get the ball rolling on adding another wing at their current location.
