Vikings continue to dominate Girls Varsity & JV Volleyball

The Faga’itua Vikings and Kanana Fou Stallions have so far dominated in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Varsity Volleyball season. The Vikings are on top in the Varsity division with a perfect 6 wins and 0 losses recorded, while in the second place spot are the Stallions who are near perfect with a 5 win and 1 loss record. The only time these two teams were scheduled to meet was on September 29 in Faga’itua.

Unfortunately, the Stallions didn’t make the trip to Faga’itua and Samoa News understands that it was due to transportation problems.

In the latest Varsity match-ups this past Saturday, it was the Samoana Sharks playing the Leone Lions twice in one day. The Lions came into the first game looking for their first win of the season, while the Sharks were looking to add win number two to their record. In the first match, the Sharks made that second check mark in their win column as they downed the Lions 25-10 and then 25-18.

The second match had the Lions earning their first win of the season, that took them three sets in the process as they defeated the Sharks 28-26, 19-25 and 18-25.

There were three Junior Varsity matches as well on Saturday that saw the Vikings win over the Warriors 25-15 and 25-16 to remain undefeated. The Warriors did however manage to pull out one win for the day when they got by the Sharks 25-10, 24-26 and 17-14.

The third Junior Varsity game of the day had the Sharks fighting to victory over the Lions 16-25, 26-24 and 17-9. This was the first win for the Junior Varsity Sharks, while the Lions dropped to 0 wins and 3 losses.

The next set of Varsity games is scheduled for today, where the Nu’uuli VocTech Wildcats will be taking on the Vikings in Faga’itua, while the Lions will meet the Fa’asao Marist Cougars at the Malaeloa gymnasium.

Tomorrow, the Stallions will be hosting the Sharks, as the Warriors host the Wildcats, and these games have a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m. The next Junior Varsity games are this coming Saturday at Tafuna High School with a scheduled starting time of 9 a.m. with three scheduled games.
