Governor conducts inspection of DOE school bus fleet

Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has recommended to Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin-Finau to seek out qualified mechanics who can repair the numerous school buses that are currently not on the road.

During an inspection last week, Governor Lolo was informed that a total of 18 school buses are being used to transport the territory’s school children. The rest of the buses are either inoperable or sitting idle at the Public Works compound in Tafuna.

Samoa News understands that DOE is looking at hiring a private company from Hawaii to repair the buses, as the buses are newer and have electrical functions that local mechanics may not be familiar with.

DOE has been advised that if the buses cannot be fixed at all, they need to be removed from the Public Works compound.
