Utulei women triumph at end of first round-robin

Utulei Youth cleaned up the first round with a perfect, 4-0 record after putting away PanSa 3-0 in the women’s, FFAS National Cup challenge on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

 

In the only other game of the division, Lion Heart beat Green Bay 5-1 while Ilaoa & To’omata sat out with a bye.

 

UTULEI YOUTH 3, PANSA 0

 

Salevu Filiva’a kicked two PKs in the first half to give Utulei Youth a 2-0 lead before Sancia Sopoaga made it 3-0 late in the second half with a goal of her own.

 

Going into the game both teams were undefeated with PanSa (3-0) leading the standings by goals differential, but after the result of the game both teams traded places with Utulei at No. 1 and the latter falling down to No. 2.

 

Ilaoa & To’omata (2-2) is No. 3 with six points, followed by Lion Heart (1-3) with three and Green Bay (0-4) at No. 5.

 

The second round-robin kicks off this Saturday with Utulei Youth taking on challenger, Green Bay.  When these two teams met in the first round Utulei won 3-0.

 

PanSa took on Ilaoa & To’omata on Saturday.

 

LION HEART 5, GREEN BAY 1

 

It was a battle between winless teams with Lion Heart triumphing with a 5-1 win over Green Bay.

 

Makareta Agatonu helped lead her team in the win with four goals on the day, scoring two each in both halves.

 

Lion Heart was off  Saturday with a by while Green Bay took on Utulei Youth.
