“DIDN’T WE LEARN OUR LESSON LAST TIME?”

Dear Editor,

Watching the news, I am sickened by those members of Congress who are opposing the President's position of no ground troops in Syria/Iraq at this time. Haven’t we learned our lesson from the last time?

George Bush sent tens of thousands of our ground troops to go fight a war that had nothing to do with us. It's so easy for them to say “send in the troops” — because none of their children have to fight these wars.

Speaking as a father who has two sons in the military with a third on his way when he graduates from a ROTC scholarship, my message to Congress, particularly Senator John McCain is this: Send your own children to the Middle East, then we can talk about our children who are in the military.

I trust the President to do what is right for our military forces and my children. My sons are respectively a Navy Seal and a Lieutenant with the Army Rangers. They are prepared to fight to the death to defend our country, and I will trust their fate in the hands of our Commander in Chief, the President of the UNITED STATES.

I can't see where the current situation in Syria/Iraq directly threatens the security of the United States. As for Congress, a place where I worked for 12 years — JUST BUTT OUT!!! Leave military matters in the hands of our military people and the Commander in Chief.
