Names of Top 6 acts for AS Best Dance Crew revealed

Rock Solid 2 from Afao stole the show this past Thursday during the second round of the semi-finals for the American Samoa’s Best Dance Crew (ASBDC) competition, which will continue next Thursday, Sept. 18 with the “Top 6 Dance Off”.

The eight-week program will culminate on Thursday, Sept. 25 with the grand finale: “The Top 4 Dance Off”.

Two groups will be eliminated this coming Thursday as the contestants are two shows away from their goal of going home with the coveted title and $2,000 cash provided by McDonald’s American Samoa.

The last five of the remaining groups were in the spotlight at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium this past Thursday and they didn’t disappoint.

It was Rock Solid 2 who ended the evening with a performance that brought the house down.

At the end of the night, the Top 6 groups who will be moving on to the next round of competition were named and the results are as follows:

1- Rock Solid 2 from Afao (880 points)

2 - Air Gear Studio from the Bay Area (774 points)

3 - Mount Zion from Leone (758 points)

4 - Humble (758 points)

5 - Flower Power (748 points)

6 - New Boys from Petesa (746 points)

As with the weeks leading up to the finale, each group is assigned a challenge that must be incorporated into their routine for the next round of competition.

Next week’s challenge is “Salute to the Troops”.

The competition, which is grounded in hip-hop, has garnered a lot of interest from local residents - both young and old.

The four groups that didn’t make it to the Top 6 will be performing during the finale and they will be receiving consolation prizes.

Second place winners will be awarded a cash prize of $1,500 while third place will go home with $1,000. Fourth place winners will walk away with $500.

At the end of Thursday’s competition, the Pago Pago CCCAS youth group was given the chance to perform their own special dance routine that included lots of acrobatics, bone crunching moves and energy that had the crowd begging for more.

The remaining two shows can be seen live on KVZK-TV Channel 2 at 7 p.m. or at the Fale Laumei in Utulei. Admission is free.

The ASBDC is hosted by the Dept. of Youth and Women’s Affairs and sponsored by McDonald’s American Samoa.
