TEUILA FEST SLIDESHOW: MISS SAMOA HIGHLIGHTS REIGN AS IT COMES TO END

“Miss Samoa is not just about beauty, rather so much more than that. The commitment to being a role model, presenting my Samoa during international traveling, but also the oh-so-awesome opportunity to be a part of the Miss South Pacific pageant,” says current Miss Samoa, Susana Reti Fanueli who will be giving away her crown this coming Saturday (Samoa time).

She is the daughter of Lupematasila Reti and Lagaasa Fanueli, a former student of Samoa College who recently studied at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Susana currently works at the Controller and Chief Auditor’s office.

In an interview with Samoa News yesterday, Miss Samoa said the highlight of her reign was in “trying to be a good role model, which is the most challenging because when you are out in the public everyone is looking at you, watching your every step, and while it’s challenging, it’s something I am happy that I’ve encountered because with these challenges it’s made me realize that this crown is not all about being a beautiful Samoan girl, rather someone all the young Samoan women look up to.”

Susana said at the end of the day, it’s all up to you to showcase who you really are.

“Going the extra mile has always been my focus in literally everything I did and that’s how I conducted myself with the projects I worked with during my reign as Miss Samoa. It’s my life motto— if I’m tasked with something I will always go the extra mile and go beyond my best.”

Asked as to what was the most challenging part of her reign, Susana said it was conducting herself in public as all the focus in what she did, how she walked and talked, and she was cautious with everything she did. “I remember what our Prime Minister told me, once you’re selected as Miss Samoa, everything that’s bestowed upon you, you must carry yourself in that manner, as a Tama’ita’I Samoa.”

She told Samoa News that prior to being crowned, she always looked at the Miss Samoa, “thinking that’s all she does, just acting pretty, but no… it’s much more than that, it requires a lot of your time and commitment. Miss Samoa is not just about beauty, rather so much more than that. The commitment, being a role model, presenting my Samoa during international traveling, but also the oh-so-awesome opportunity to be a part of the Miss South Pacific.”

Miss Samoa, told Samoa News that her long hope to be a volunteer with Samoa Victim’s Support Group will now come to life as soon as she passes her crown to the next ambassador.

Coordinated by the Manaia Event, the contestants were accompanied by the reigning Miss Samoa, Susana Fanueli.

She said when they visited the SVSG last week, “it was a very emotional visit as we saw first hand the reality of the effects domestic violence and sexual abuse have on our community, specifically the minor children.”

She told Samoa News that during their visit, each of the ten contestants including her,  pledged $100 per person towards the Children’s House of Hope cash power. $1000 worth of cash power credit was input yesterday to mark the contestants’ commitment to this charitable contribution.

She said they also presented sundae ice creams and cup cakes as part of the goodies brought over by the visiting beauties which was shared by everyone before they bid the children farewell.
