APELU MOSE CHARGED IN DRUG CASE

A man has been held behind bars on $10,000 bail on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a felony punishable with five to ten years in jail, a fine of not less than $5,000 or both fine and jail time. He is also charged with public peace disturbance, which is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a fine of up to $500 or both jail and fine.

According to the government’s case, police proceeded to a call that came from the Country Club in Ili’ili where the defendant was causing trouble. The defendant had been handcuffed to a coconut tree by the security guards at CC, when officers arrived. The owner of CC told police the defendant was brought out of the club because he had harassed several customers, including a female customer.

The owner further told police that he believed the defendant had left the club multiple times to “smoke weed” and believed there to be marijuana in his possession. Police officers searched the defendant and found on him a tied up plastic bag containing a green leafy substance which later tested positive as marijuana. There were also three marijuana joints found on the defendant.

The defendant made his initial appearance in District Court last Thursday where he entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him.

BUS DRIVER ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

Foemua Taveuveu, a bus driver, has been charged with public peace disturbance and third degree assault on allegations that he assaulted another bus driver last week.

The defendant made his initial appearance in the District Court on Thursday. Court filings say that a man walked into the Leone Substation and claimed he was assaulted by another bus driver from the village of Se’etaga.

It’s alleged the defendant had obstructed the flow of traffic in Fa’ilolo, where he parked his aiga bus, got out of his bus and walked to the victim’s bus. It is further alleged that he grabbed the victim by the collar of his shirt, dragging the victim from his seat to the steps of the bus. According to court documents, the victim suffered a laceration on his nose from one of the suspect’s fingernails, and also suffered a laceration on his left foot from a metal piece on one of the seats during the scuffle.

Court filings say passengers on the bus stopped the fight and the defendant then got back in his bus and drove off. The victim was then treated by EMS at the station shortly after his arrival there, and he was advised by EMS personnel to seek further treatment from the Emergency Room. However, the victim refused treatment and he was released to go home.

According to the government’s case, it was discovered that the victim and the suspect are neighbors and that the victim is married to the suspect’s cousin. Both men are from the same family, and it was felt that it was unsafe for both parties to return home.
