USDOL ACTIVE IN THE TERRITORY WITH TRAINING AND ENFORCEMENT

U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (USDOL-WHD) senior investigator of the San Diego District Office Heather Skidmore (left) and USDOL-WHR assistant director of the Honolulu District Office, Min Kirk (right) yesterday gave a training presentation on the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) at the Gov. H. Rex Lee Auditorium.

The training session was coordinated by the ASG Human Resources Department and USDOL-WHR for government directors, managers and supervisors as well as representatives of the private sector, and ASG semi-autonomous agencies. Skidmore is the new WHR investigator based in the territory for a couple of months.

As part of an administrative settlement agreement reached early last year between USDOL and Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga to resolve the close to $1 million in overtime pay for several government employees, ASG directors and managers are to undergo annual Fair Labor Standards Act and FMLA training administered by DHR.

According to USDOL, the FMLA entitles eligible employees of certain employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons. FMLA applies to employers with 50 or more employees. Specific details can be obtained by calling the local USDOL-WHD office at 254-4585 or www.dol.gov
