ASG makes clean up for Flag Day an annual event

In an effort to beautify the Tutuila in time for next week’s 2014 Flag Day celebration, the government is conducting a two-day clean up starting tomorrow. ASG also conducted a similar clean up last year, leading up to the main event.

During the Flag Day Committee’s program on KVZK-TV, the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Fiu Johnny Saelua announced the clean up on Friday (tomorrow and Saturday), which will start from Lupelele Elementary School in Ili’ili all the way to Satala.

Eight zones have been divided up for the cleanup, with ASG agencies and departments assigned to each of the zones for clean up as well as putting up decorations along with the roadside.

Fiu asked the public not to damage or destroy the decorations, which will remain up throughout the Easter weekend, that includes Good Friday (next week Friday) and Easter Sunday.

While the official Flag Day raising ceremony is set for Apr. 17th, Flag Day related events begin this Friday, Apr. 11 with the two-day TMO Marist American Samoa 7s Flag Day Tournament competition, and on Sunday — a church service — followed by Monday to Wednesday in the afternoon, with various programs sponsored by the Department of Youth and Women’s Affairs and the Arts Council at Su’igaula o le Atuvasa Park at Utulei Beach. The Flag Day fautasi race is set for Wednesday, Apr. 16.
